Hands On Habit-Building Success Story: Meet Jen
(this can be you)
Here’s a question we were recently asked: What exactly does Habit House’s Hands On Habit-Building package look like? To illustrate, we’d like to share Jen’s story.
Jen is a successful woman working in sales at a established technology company. Together with her husband, she has two beautiful children who she picks up from school each evening. She also is an active member of the PTA and runs a monthly book club at her house. She was struggling to establish a wellness routine that fit her lifestyle; she was overwhelmed by all her goals and defined herself as “chronically overcommitted.” While she successfully logged between 7-10K steps in each day with her fitbit, she wasn’t able to make any other type of exercise happen.
Here’s how we helping Jen build her ideal wellness routine, one habit at a time: When taking her Habit Analysis, she identified a series of habits that made up her dream wellness routine: walking the dog twice a week after work for an hour and doing some type of cardio two times a week. She shared that doing some type of cardio two times a week was the habit she wanted to incorporate into her lifestyle the most. Then she answered a few behavioral questions and scheduled a call to meet her habit coach.
Together with her habit coach, Jen discovered what the habit of walking doing some type of cardio two times a week would look like for her. Her habit coach helped her identify current barriers to success. Jen shared that she was familiar with the C25K running app and had used it before. She shared that her husband didn’t workout, which made it less motivating for her, and that on days when she came home before she had to pick the kids up after school, she was often quickly unmotivated to workout. Habit House helped her pinpoint solutions for each of these habit-barriers.
With her habit coach she identified the first habit she would build with Habit House: running using the C25K app once a week. Because running was a habit Jen was somewhat familiar with, and how she scored on the behavioral portion of the Habit Analysis, she selected the Hands On Habit-Building package.
Habit House provided in the moment accountability text messages, a weekly reflection and plan ahead, and a monthly check-in call. These accountability touch-points set Jen up for success. After four weeks, the habit of running once a week was as routine for Jen as brushing her teeth. She decided she was ready to layer on her next habit: running twice a week.
This was one week ago. Currently, Habit House provides Jen with in the moment accountability text messages, a weekly reflection and plan ahead, and a monthly check-in call. Jen is well on her way to building this habit. Next, we will layer on the habit of walking the dog for an hour in the evening.
Here’s Jen’s take on our habit-based system:“As a goal-oriented person there is so much I want to do, it is overwhelming. At the same time it’s difficult to put together a motivating plan that sets you up to make the right lifestyle choices. Habit House helps you put a purposeful plan behind your dream wellness routine so it actually happens. I feel better than I have in a long time.”
